Abstract The purpose of this study is to find the heat transfer characteristics of the underground space. A model underground space was selected for measursement in Taejeon city. To graspthe distributions of thermal conditions, outdoor air temperature, ground temperature, and various points of indoor temperature were measured. The measurements were performed in two seasons; summer(cooling period) and winter(heating period) under natural conditions in the model underground space.As a result the heat transfer characteristics of the underground space has the status of stabilization, the lower heating load and the similar heat transfer coefficient of the inside wall surface comparing to that of residential space.
