Title |
The confucian Schools of Gyongsangnam-do |
Abstract |
Based on comprehensive survey of 29 Confucian schools existing in GyongNam Province, this study verifies their regional characters comparing to other regions. The main characteristic is found in their site layouts-either parallel or axial. The axial type shows the regional Confucian school's typical adherence to the principle-school locates at front, temple back. Gate pavilion, dormitories and lecture hall compose the explicit lecture hall area, which results a domain. The developments in gate pavilion remain as this region's indigenous characteristics. According to Chossun dynasty's municipal system, Gyongsangnamdo was divided by 4 areas and each area shows regional difference in Confucian schools. For examplethe Confucious temple in east area is closed type building but in west area, open type one. |
