Title Estimation of Basic Design Wind Speed of the Island and the Coastal Area

Abstract In determining basic design wind speed for wind load, the method of using maximum annual wind speed is usually used. This method, however, is considered to be satisfactory when based on wind recores exceed 20 years. Therefore, in the cases with short-term records, basic design wind speed estimated by maximum annual wind speed is not reliable. But the number of annually wind data for island and coastal area in korea is less than 6 or so. This study is to be estimate basic design wind speed from maximum monthly wind speed following by Grigoriu's approach. And goodness of fitness between extreme distribution of Type I, II, III and the recorded wind data is also discussed.
