Abstract Two improved methods, to calulate vertical distribution of seismic loads based on the equivalent lateral force procedure which considered the influence of higher vibration modes on the dynamic behavior properly. were proposed for moment frame-type structure and bearing wall-type structure.But in general most of building structures are moment frame-type structure with shear wall, therefore in this paper a improved method is proposed to obtain vertical distribution of seismic loads for such building structures which reflect the influence of higher vibration modes on the dynamic behavior pertinently. Because the dynamic behavior of such building structures varies in portion to the amount of shear wall, the effect of shear wall on the dynamic behavior is reflected in the improved method too.
