A Study on Architectural Theories of John Ruskin |
Abstract |
Ruskin was the most important British architectural critic of the nineteenth century. His influence is to be seen in the High victorian Gothic and the Arts and Crafts movementthat followed it. However, Ruskin's architectural thought had remained largely neglected by an influence of Modernism. But, His theories of art and architecture have in recent years begun to attract renewed scolarly attention. I focused my attention on two points in this paper. That is, how Ruskin understanding Architecure and what is the standard of Ruskin's architectural critic. This paper surveys Ruskin's contribution as an observer and analyst of ethical problem surrounding art and architecture. |
