Improvement of Efficiency of Floor Radiant Heating System with Hot Mater for Apartment Buildings |
Abstract |
This project aims ar developing and applying an optimized heating method for Korean apartment buildings. Practical guidelines for the improvement of the efficiency of floor radiant heating system in continuous heating mode are being developed. This study was focused on establishment of optimal configuration of the floor radiant heating system under the continuous heating mode. For the analysis of thermal perofrmance of floor radiant heating system, computer simulations and actual measurements of a test cell were conducted. The major results obtained in the present study are as follow:1 The supplide hot water velocity through the heating coil has no effect on energy consumption over 0.5m/s;Energy consumption increases slightly with flow rate between 0.1 to 0.5m/sec. High velocity of water caused large indoor air temperture fluctuations. The optimal velocity woule range from 0.1m/s to 0.5m/s.2 Increasing the heating coil separation(pitch) could reduce energy consumption, although it can increase temperature gradients across the floor.3 Smaller diamerer of heating coil shoule be more efficient for continuous heating moed, neglecting consiedration of pumping power.4 The conductivity of coil material has no significant effect on energy consumption because the thermal resistance of mortar enclosing the heating coil significantly higher than that of the heating coil.5 Decreasing the thickness of mortar above the heating coil decreases energy consumption but it can increase temperature gradients across the floor.6 To minimize the fluctuation of indoor temperature, the thermostatic control should be based on the floor surface temperature rather than indoor air temperature. |
