Title |
A Study of the Period of the Shear Wall-Type Structure |
Abstract |
The apartments that have recently been built in Korea have a unique structural system which consists of shear walls to support gravity loads as well as lateral loads. Most of the shear walls are usually placed in shorter direction of the structure rather than in longer direction, so that the stiffness in shorter direction is much greater than that of longer direction. However, when the period of shear wall-type structure is determined by the various building codes including our national code, the differences in the stiffness of each direction in not as well considered. In this study, various provisions for the building periods in the different building codes are examined and compared with the result of dynamic analysis obtained by the ETABS, and new formulas for the period are proposed to consider the differences in stiffness of each directon of shear wall-type structure. |
