Vibration Charcteristics of Tall Buildings using Passive Tuned Mass Dampers |
Abstract |
Lagrange multipliers formulation is applied to the vibration control of tall buildings using passive tuned mass dampers. New equations of motion and complex frequency response functions including higher modes of tall buildings are developed. Mean squares of the displacement of the highest story are compared by changing the frequency and mass ratios. It is found that the displacement reduction is achieved by tuning the natural frequency of an oscillator to the first natural frequency of tall buildings and the contribution of higher modes in the displacement reduction is negligible for relatively small mass of an oscillator with respect to that of tall buildings. |
