Abstract |
A novel fiber-optic sensor, which is based on Fresnel reflection measurement, is suggested for condition monitoring of electric power system. The sensor head is constructed by covering a fiber end tip with thermo-sensitive epoxy polymer resin. The different thermo-optic coefficients of optical fiber and polymer resin change the intensity of Fresnel reflections from the interface. The temperature can be calculated by monitoring the variation in the Fresnel reflection intensity. The temperature sensitivity could be improved by adjusting the ratio of the curing agent. In order to evaluate the feasibility of the sensor head, temperature measurements were performed in 45∼115 ℃ temperature range. From the experiments, the proposed sensor successfully measured and recovered the temperature information and the linear-fitted value of R2 was 0.99759. |
