Abstract Automatic emergency power suppliers in the distribution boards of apartments or office buildings have been used to distribute power of emergency generators to main electric appliances in case of power outage due to fire or breakdown. However, existing emergency systems are mainly designed for power supply under the outage of normal electric power, so the emergency power distribution is not activated if normal power keeps flowing in; hence such systems cannot ensure that the emergency lights of stairs, corridors or evacuation areas automatically turn on when fire breaks out. This study intends to introduce an emergency power control and supplying device in a distribution board, which facilitates rapid evacuation during fire by automatically turning on emergency lights even if normal power supplies. It also aims to suggest how to respond to reported problems (such as damages to the contact and malfunctions) in the power transition device?damages to the contact and malfunctions?caused by inductor loads while automatically switching to the emergency supply mode.
