Abstract Due to the fringing effect, the capacitance per length of a cylindrical capacitor of finite length is bigger than that of an infinitely long cylindrical capacitor. To examine the fringing effect on the capacitance of a cylindrical capacitor of finite length, the method of moments is employed to precisely compute the capacitance. In order to verify the computation results of the method of moments, COMSOL is also used to find the capacitance. The developed program based on the method of moments is applied to the accurate computation of capacitances of a cylindrical type of Blumlein pulse forming line.
