Abstract Since the induction motor is an inductive load, its power factor is low. Especially, the starting power factor of the induction motor is very low compared with the normal operation. This is because the reactive power of the induction motor at start-up is higher than the active power. Capacitors are mainly installed to compensate the low power factor of the induction motor. The reactive power of the capacitor is related to the voltage. Voltage drop depends on the length of the cable supplying the electric power to the induction motor. In this study, we analyzed the changes of current, voltage drop, reactive power and power factor before and after the installation of the induction motor power factor compensation device according to cable length change.
