Abstract |
This paper presents the surface insulation performance of SF6 and SF6 alternative gases (N2/O2 mixed gas (8/2), CO2, N2) in the non-uniform field with a faulty contact between a high voltage electrode and a solid dielectric. Surface discharge experiments were conducted using a knife-shaped electrode and 60Hz AC high voltage in order to measure the surface flashover voltages. Experimental results showed that the surface insulation performance of the used gases depended on their electron attachment cross sections. Abstruse-insulation characteristics of CO2 and N2 were described in detail using collision ionization coefficient in the electric field range of the experimental conditions. |
