Abstract |
This paper proposes a filtering method of a Geiger counter for high speed response. There is a large variance in the pulse train of the Geiger's tube. In general, a low-pass filter with narrow and fixed bandwidth is adopted to eliminate disturbances. A new bandwidth tracer that extracts the cycle of each pulse train and decides the optimal bandwidth of the averaging low-pass filter is installed. The Geiger counter consists of a high-voltage supply and a DSP. The high voltage power supply uses a ringing choke converter with the integral controller to obtain a stable constant voltage. Tracking, averaging and control functions were implemented in DSP real-time software. To validate the operation of the proposed filter, the step response was measured using an alpha radiation source. Experimental results showed a fast response at rising time. |
