Abstract |
This paper describes the design of the high-voltage capacitor charger (10kV, 1kW) for SSMM (Solid-state Marx modulator). Based on series resonant inverter, the proposed capacitor charger is designed by multiple transformers and rectifiers to charge many capacitors, simultaneously. Using high-voltage insulation cable, the one turn of primary winding is implemented for isolation against 10kV output pulse. In order to use the leakage inductance for resonant inductor without additional component, all the resonance tank parameters are designed based on DCM(Discontinuous Conduction Mode) resonant converter. Two secondary windings are wound on six toroidal cores and each secondary winding is connected to a voltage doubled rectifier circuit so that a total of 24 capacitors can be charged simultaneously up to 417V. In this paper, detailed design of series resonant converter operating in the DCM is described and the proposed circuit is verified through PSpice simulation and the experimental results at rated operation. |
