Abstract |
Inset flashing light for aviation (hereinafter referred to as inset flashing light) is a lamp installed on runway of airport to inform an aircraft a route of airstrip to land. Currently, inset flashing lights installed in many airports are made of Xenon lamps consuming high electrical power, lasting short life, and having poor visibility. To compensate for these disadvantages, LED lightings are being implemented to replace the conventional Xenon flashing lights. Until now, there was no LED product that satisfies the optical requirements of the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), used as an international standard. However, through this research an intense LED inset flashing airport light that satisfies the FAA standard will be presented along with measured characteristics. Furthermore, designing and manufacturing process of the LED inset flashing light for airport will be suggested and finally the technical aspects will be discussed to achieve the performance requirements of the optical characteristics. |
