Abstract |
This paper deals with the comparison, analysis, and selection of semiconductor switches for discharge switches of solid-state pulsed power modulators with fast rise times. When designing a pulsed power modulator with nanoseconds rise times, it is required to select a discharge switch with fast turn-on switching. In order to select a appropriate discharge switch, a test circuit that can compare and analyze the rise time of a semiconductor switch at a level of a single cell was designed, and comparative experiments were conducted under various current conditions. The discharge switch was selected by comparing the rise time, arc reliability, and price with various perspectives. A 10-kV Marx modulator with the selected semiconductor switch was tested. The results were verified that the 10 kV output pulses have fast rise times of 20ns or less. |
