Abstract |
Excessive or inappropriate use of artificial lighting creates inconveniences in the everyday lives of people, such as discomfort, sleep disorder, and unsafe walking condition, etc. This study aims to investigate the relationship between nighttime lighting environment (e.g. the type of lightings and the manner in which\h they are installed, installation conditions, and characteristics of the sidewalks, etc.) and the light pollution caused by such trespassing light in densely-populated residential areas. For our study, one dong (a municipality) was selected among the most densely-populated areas in Seoul, and we measured and analyzed properties of the lightings, road condition, installation condition, and light pollution (vertical illumination in residential areas) for the entire security lightings located within that area (dong). |
