Abstract |
Although a Korean company developed a self-powered ultraviolet (UV) LED sterilizer for escalator handrails, sufficient pasteurization has not been achieved due to lack of optical power, light uniformity, and self-generation capacity. In this study, two types of LED sterilizer samples were produced after optimizing optical distribution by arranging UV-C LEDs and reflectors to experiment with disinfection effect on Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Bacillus cereus (B. cereus) according to exposure time. Both the sterilizers confirmed the pasteurization rate of more than 89.4% and 99.6% in exposing 5s and 15s, respectively, against the both bacterial organisms. A self generator module was also manufactured to give an average electrical power of 7.1W to the 20 LED packages. |
