Abstract |
Despite ongoing efforts to reduce safety accidents in construction, fatalities on construction sites still account for more than half of all
industrial accidents. Construction safety signs are essential for safety management, as they raise awareness of potential risks and improve
situational awareness. However, many current safety signs have outdated designs and ineffective visuals, limiting their ability to enhance
hazard recognition. Research from other fields shows that safety signs incorporating dynamic optical illusions can significantly boost worker
vigilance. Developing these signs, however, is resource-intensive and often influenced by designer subjectivity. Generative artificial intelligence
(AI) offers an efficient alternative by producing numerous design options with minimal effort. This study evaluates the feasibility of using
generative AI to create optical illusion construction safety signs and compares their effectiveness in preventing accidents with existing signs.
The results show that the newly designed signs improve readability and other key factors. These findings suggest that generative AI can play
a vital role in enhancing construction safety and improving current safety practices. |
