Abstract |
The dynamic characteristics of grounding systems play an important role in the protection of electrical installations against lightning. The transient behavior of grounding systems for lightning protection have to be investigated. This paper presents the effect of decreasing the impulsive potential rise on the grounding grid combined with carbon ground electrodes. The potential rise on the grounding grid having carbon ground electrodes subjected to impulse currents is measured and compared with simulation result. Also, the test is performed in the impulse current of the front-time of 10μs in order to analyze the dynamic behavior of the grounding grids combined carbon ground electrodes for first positive return stroke current pulse waveform.. As a result of the measurement and simulation, in the case that surge current is injected to the connection point of grounding grid and carbon ground electrodes, it is effective in decreasing the ground potential rise due to the capacitance of carbon ground electrodes which leads to the reduction of grounding impedance. The results proposed in this work could be utilized as basic data in developing the design rules of grounding electrode systems for decreasing grounding impedance in the future. |
