Abstract The main disadvantage of the induction machine is the high voltage drop due to the generation of high currents at start-up. This voltage drop can make it difficult to operate other equipment connected to the same bus. When the induction machine is operated by a motor or generator, a certain time is required to secure the rated torque. When the induction machine is driven into the motoring and generating mode zones, both involve the motor operating zone for a period of time. For this reason, there is a voltage drop corresponding to the duration of the starting current. This duration is different from each other. In this paper, the load of the same size is connected to the shaft of the induction machine, and the magnitude of the starting current and the voltage drop is analyzed when operating in the motor operation mode and the generator operation mode. As a result of the analysis, it was found that when the same load is connected to the induction machine shaft, the starting driving time of the motor is longer than that of the generator. That is, the time corresponding to the rated speed at startup corresponds to the duration of the starting current and voltage drop.
