- Aims and scope:
The Korean Journal of Construction Engineering and Management (KJCEM) is the official academic journal of the Korean Institute of Construction Engineering and Management (KICEM). Its mission is to promote and share knowledge on construction engineering and management that contributes to the successful implementation and delivery of capital assets both in Korea and worldwide.
The journal invites research that identifies and formalizes approaches to improve construction management practices, including contract and tender strategies, organizational structures, project cost and schedule control, and supply chain logistics. It also welcomes studies on emerging information technologies—such as Building Information Modeling (BIM), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Digital Twins—as well as next-generation construction technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), Virtual and Augmented Reality, modularization, robotics, and intelligent equipment, to enhance project outcomes. In addition, the journal seeks contributions that address sustainability, including carbon reduction, energy efficiency, resilient infrastructure, and sustainable construction practices. KJCEM welcomes submissions from both Korean and international authors whose research is relevant to these themes.
KJCEM provides a unique forum for disseminating knowledge related to the Korean AECO (Architecture, Engineering, Construction, and Operations) industry, which delivers engineering and construction services for diverse assets including high-rise buildings, high-tech manufacturing plants (e.g., semiconductors, biotech facilities), and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Given the global relevance of these sectors, the journal addresses topics of interest to both Korean and international audiences.
To achieve its aims, the journal publishes peer-reviewed original research articles, review papers, and case reports in Korean or English on a bimonthly basis. These contributions cover theoretical foundations, empirical developments, and novel applications of systems and technologies for advancing construction engineering and management.
- Readership:
KJCEM is an open-access journal publishing at the ISSN (ISSN 2005-6095, eISSN 2465-9703) and digital object identifier (DOI). It is indexed in CrossRef metadata, Korea Citation Index, and Google Scholar, and is easily available to wide international researchers. Each article provides excellent research and engineering applications related to construction engineering and management.

8. Peer Review
KJCEM has an online submission and peer review system at https://www.kicem.or.kr/submission/login.jsp?ViewFlag=author.
KJCEM reviews all manuscripts received. A manuscript is first reviewed for its format and adherence to the aims and scope of the journal by the Editor-in-Chief (within one week of submission). If the manuscript meets these two criteria, it is also checked for plagiarism or duplicate publication with Similarity Check. After confirming its result, it is dispatched to three investigators in the field with relevant knowledge.
KJCEM employs a double-blind review process, which means that both reviewers and authors are anonymous to each other. Reviewers are qualified scholars and experts who have adequate knowledge in the field. Additionally, suggested reviewers may not be affiliated with the same institution as any of the manuscript authors. The authors’ names and affiliations are removed during the peer review. Only limited information would be given to a member of the editorial board if he or she is among the authors. They will not be given special treatment.
Assuming the manuscript is sent to reviewers, KJCEM waits to receive opinions from at least three reviewers. In addition, if deemed necessary, a review of statistics may be requested. The acceptance criteria for all papers are based on the quality, originality, and scientific significance of the research.
An initial decision will be made, and reviewer comments will be presented to authors within 6 weeks of submission via the online submission system. Acceptance of the manuscript is determined based on the critiques and recommendations of the reviewers. The reviewers are requested to identify one of four recommendations for publication:
- Accept as is
- Accept with minor revisions
- Revision and resubmission
- Reject
If two reviewers decide to reject the submission of the manuscript, it may not be considered for publication. The corresponding author must indicate the alterations that have been made in response to the reviewers’ comments item by item. Failure to resubmit the revised manuscript within three months of the editorial decision is regarded as a withdrawal. If a further revision period is required, the author should contact the editorial office.
The paper review process would take one to three months. The deputy associate editor shall also review the English communication and clarity of the accepted paper, including the abstract. A final decision on acceptance/rejection for publication is forwarded to the corresponding author by the editor.
9. Access
