Abstract The charging of lithium-ion batteries is normally implemented by constant current(CC)?constant voltage (CV) charging. In this charging procedure, the equivalent load resistance modeled by the battery varies over a wide range, making it difficult to charge the battery with a wireless power transfer(WPT). A new WPT system, which reconfigures the circuit topology in each CC and CV charging mode, was proposed to address this issue. The proposed system changed the compensation network from series?series compensation in the CC mode to LCC-S compensation in the CV mode, and the reconfiguration was implemented by the two bidirectional switches, which only use single on/off signal. In addition, the phase-shift modulation was adopted to mitigate the effect of the parasitic resistance in the regulation of the circuit, so the precise regulation of the CC and CV output was achieved regardless of the load resistance in each mode. Finally, a 200 W prototype was built to validate the proposed system, and the results showed that the proposed system suits the battery charging process well.
