Abstract This study presents a secure power line communication system that integrates amplitude shift keying (ASK) with AES-128 encryption on a field-programmable gate array. A buck converter, controlled via pulse-width modulation, embeds ASK-modulated encrypted data into the power line without additional wiring. In the transmitter, plain text is encrypted using AES-128 and converted into ASK signals by adjusting the converter’s duty ratio to create two voltage levels. In the receiver, an analog-to-digital converter samples the line voltage, detects amplitude changes, reconstructs the bitstream, and performs AES decryption to recover the original data. Experimental validation confirms reliable data transfer with minimal voltage ripple (1.82%) and no power quality degradation. The proposed approach is a cost-effective, secure solution for simultaneous power delivery and data communication in smart grids and DC-based systems.
