Abstract Increasing demands for large-capacity DC loads in modern data centers and telecommunications equipment require constant strengthening of quality standards for three-phase rectifiers connected to grids. In particular, the harmonic components contained in the rectifier input current cause voltage instability and equipment damage. Therefore, the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) mandates that input current harmonic components must be suppressed below a certain level. In this context, various harmonic reduction technologies have been proposed. Passive rectifier systems offer advantages of simple structure and low cost but lack output voltage control capability. In contrast, active rectifier systems provide high-performance current control but require complex control and numerous power devices. This study analyzes the control strategy for the active third-order harmonic injection rectifier, a hybrid rectifier system that combines the advantages of passive and active rectifier systems. Quantitative verification via PLECS® simulation demonstrates the ability of this topology to satisfy IEC harmonic regulations.
