| Abstract |
This paper proposes a mechanical parameter estimation method for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) using particle swarm optimization (PSO). For high-performance speed control of PMSMs, their mechanical parameters need to be obtained accurately. Therefore, numerous studies have been conducted to determine accurate mechanical parameters. However, voltage distortion occurs owing to the nonlinearity of the voltage source inverter, such as dead time, which causes parameter estimation errors. This study applies a low-frequency sinusoidal speed command via a speed controller tuned with incorrectly estimated mechanical parameters and then estimates the mechanical parameters using PSO. The proposed method is verified through a simulation and a 1.5 kW PMSM drive to verify its effectiveness. The proposed method can estimate the mechanical parameters of a PMSM with high accuracy. On the basis of the findings, we believe that the proposed method can be effectively applied in various industrial fields, such as robotics and electric vehicles. |
