Abstract In sensorless control methods that utilize model-based observers, the control performance and estimation accuracy of the speed and flux angle are highly dependent on the accuracy of the motor parameters. These parameters vary continuously during operation due to external conditions, such as temperature changes and faults, hindering their precise estimation. This study proposes a sensorless control method for induction motors that is based on a full-order back-EMF observer. The proposed method is robust against parameter errors and offers a simple pole placement design. The sensorless control performance of the proposed method is verified by the results of analysis, simulations, and experiments conducted under parameter error conditions.
